Skull cracker tomahawk

Stone skull crackers were used before metal became available, but stone was never the less an effective crushing tool. The skull crackers by Lakota artists are decorated with leather fringe, glass beads, feathers, horse hair and similar ornaments.

Ceremonial Pipe Axes

The successfull hund and dismemberment of the buffalo were followed by a dance to celebrate and to honor the buffalo and the brave hunters. Ceremonial items including weapons, were used in the dance. This pipe axe is the epitome of such items. Its blade recognizes the hunter and its usable pipe is a spiritual offering.
