Cerimonial lances
The lance was the primary hunting weapon. It was held in the hand and braced by the arm. From horseback, the Oglala, Hunkpapa, Minneconjou, Sihasapa or Black Foot , and Oohenunpa or two kettle. Its blade is individually cast solid brass of the type given to chiefs as a special gift. The shaft, covered with the blue trade, clocth and rawhide, is adorned with feathers, glass and brass bids and buffalo hide. |
